This is one my favorite patterns that Steve has done.  It was one of my first attempts (I don't show that is ANYBODY! LOL) and here is my latest.  1/8" oak ply with a 1/4" BB ply backer that is painted black.

Nicely done.  If you stack that 1/8", it makes it easier to control the cuts and you wind up with more than one for the same effort.
