Dewalt 788 type 2 - stubborn air blower bellows
« on: January 23, 2015, 02:43:32 pm »
Hi all!
Is the bellows attached at the top by something I'm overlooking?  Trying to remove for inspection and it just doesn't want to leave home.  The bottom is free.  I powered up on slow and the top is oscillating vertically, but really obstinate.

This site http://servicenet.dewalt.com/Products/Detail?isId=true&productNumber=DW788&selectedType=21612 has the parts diagram for the type 1 and type 2 saws.  Looking at them, the bellows areas appear to be identical.

From your explanation it's hard to tell which part will not come off but perhaps the parts diagram will help.  The cap (#30) should come off with a little wiggling.  The bellows might (someone else might know for sure and will comment) be "attached" to the projection on the back bottom of the rocker assembly (#10).  If I'm correct, a gentle tug should remove the bellows.

Good luck and let us know how you get on,
Jim
PS, you can save the diagrams for future reference.

There is a tapered tab on the bottom of the rocker assembly that holds it in place. A firm pull will remove it and it is not so easy to put back on.  8)

Thx for your replies!

I was having trouble removing the bellows, but it finally popped out after a bigger tug.  I found no leaks and am now wondering how to reinstall it.  Where there's a will . . .

Maybe the blower will suddenly start working if I reboot the machine.   ;)
