RBI Hawk Precision 220-3 fro 300.00 or Dewalt 788 for 250.00?
« on: January 08, 2015, 02:43:09 pm »
HI,

New guy to the forum! Im excited about what i can learn here!

I have the opportunity to purchase a RBI Hawk Precision 220-3 for $300.00 or a Dewalt 788 for 250.00. Both saws seem to be pretty clean and seem new. Do one of these stand out more than the other? I use my current saw about 2-3 times a week and it is getting tired.... its an old craftsman 16 inch saw. Im looking to step up and take it to the next level.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Andy

Nice to meet you Andy, I am also new to the forum. I also have a craftsman and plan on purchasing a Delta. Anyways, just wanted to say that I got a TON of helpful responses after posting something similar, and I am sure a lot of people will help you make the right choice. unfortunately I have no knowledge of either saws        good luck! -matt

The Hawk 220-3 seems to be an older model and uses a tool to change blades, also you have to move the belts to change speed. Personally, I would go for the Dewalt 788.

The scrollsaw community has a member that is quite knowledgeable about scroll saws his name is Rick Hutcheson and he has a website that should have a ton of information about your saw and many others.

I have 2 Hawks in my shop.
1 is an old 26" belt drive. you turn a knob on the side to change the speed
1 is a 20" with veritable speed motor
both are very good saws
,but it were me I would go with the Dewalt if it looks & runs good
