hi guys this is my mum's dog Benson sadly past away last year
it will be my first ever scroll saw portrait so looking forward to doing it
any help would be great

Shaun - yes the black in the pattern are the parts to remove. Some are just lines so you need to cut up one side of the line and down the other side. Then put a dark colored backer behind it. People use black card stock (but that can fade over time), black cloth, foam sheet, or a flat black painted wood. Try not to get glue squeezing out into the pattern when you put the backer on.

If you want to frame it, make the frame yourself or size the overall blank to fit in a commercial frame (8x10 etc). If you have no other drawing tools, MS Word works well to insert the pattern gif then re-size it as needed. I did not add any boarder around the original, but here's one with an 8x10 format. The dashed outline is just a guide for placing it on the 8x10 blank.

Great job on that pattern, EIEIO.  I may have to cut that one of these days, just because I like basset hounds so much.
