Corian

Hello Guys and Gals:
just came into some free Corian scraps and would like to know recommended blades and speeds for cutting.  Have cut some before but tend to get kerfs welding back together.  Thanks in advance for your help.

use tape under your pattern and cut with a blade that has no reverse teeth I use the flying dutchman polar blades

I used tape on the top of the corian then the pattern, I used #3 FD polar blades for 1/2inch Corian.

Hope that helps in some way, oh and cut slow too fast and welding will occur.

Hi guys and gals,

did made me a project out of 1/2" corian.
same problem with melting.
Didn't had the polar blades so used the FD-UR #3 & #5
And turned the speed of my Hegner not higher then 1/3 of the max speed.

noticed that slower did gut better, Cut more material, and didn't melt the behind the blade together.
other problem was drilling the holes.
I had Corian with withe flakes in it. where flakes where drilling and cutting felt strange.
speed of the drill also has to be low, because it melts also and there became little bumps on top and bottom of the Corian.

think it was OK to cut Corian, but guess next project will take some time....

I ams sure you would have done much better with the Polar blades. They make a world of difference. As for the drilling. gov slow, back out often to clear the debris, and if possible, use a spray bottle with water to help keep it cool. I know it will take longer but it gives better holes.  Have no iea about the flakes

Thanks for all your help guys.  I've been using #7 polar blades on half inch to cut trivets and figures.  Works great.  Found a source recently where I can get all the corian I want so I may be doing a lot of it.
