And then the test
well I tried this out several times, and found that on ply its a bit hit and miss, this I think because of the grain. So a good sanding and a coat of sanding sealer may help
Then I tried it on MDF and it works much better, however to get a decent result I found that first your printer needs to be set on "best quality" setting and then I used best quality and set the rendering to bitmap at 100    dpi
the result of that is the picture below on MDF
so be prepared to use a lot of ink, but the idea could well prove useful
