Way off topic

I know this is far from scroll sawing or even woodworking but here goes.  I've had some minor sewer blockages and have been able to clean them out myself.  I'd like to run a camera through the line to see what is happening but this means $$$.

A friend has ordered from this site http://dx.com/ and has been very satisfied with the orders.  I found this http://dx.com/p/ip67-waterproof-usb-2-0-cmos-6-led-snake-camera-endoscope-w-reflective-lens-black-10m-174942 and thought it might be cheaper in the long run - I could check any time I want.

Has anyone any experience with this sort of device - how well it illuminates, how the long cable actually works (USB max length is about 5 meters), etc., etc.

Hi JScott. My son's a plumber and his scope has a heavy spring around it to provide support for the camera cable when pushing it through clogged pipes, and vents. Unless you have something in mind to mount it in you may find it's like pushing wet spaghetti. Cheers, Barry.

Barry, good point.  I have a fish tape the I use to pull/push wire through wall cavities.  I also find it is useful for digging roots out of a sewer pipe, not a good as a real "roto-rooter" but it works, especially on a holiday weekend when plumbers want double time.  (Don't blame them, they also need time off.)

I had thought to tie-wrap the scope to the fish and use the fish tape to push the camera along.
