First pattern with text
« on: February 02, 2014, 05:11:15 pm »
Doing a search for hearts for a neighbor I come across a teddy bear holding a heart and thought since it basic will give it try this is what I come up with, had to clean up the inside of bear using the lasso tool, then added the text, this was a coloring page, the inside of the bear and spots of black all around. What do you guys think?

Now on to see if I can change the text to stretch and curve been watching youtube to see how its done text to path so will see if I can get it down, as I need to add curved text to a pattern I had made.

You will have to use a font for the text that can be scrolled so that
the inside of the letters like "D' and numerals like '9' do not fall out.

Yea darn it I forgot about that I can fix it though I was so excited I executed it on my own and figured it out forgot about that part, might have to use capitol letters maybe that will help that, just have to figure out the numbers.

You can use almost any font you want to use. You just have to remember to go through with a pencil (maybe a red pencil) and draw in some bridges in appropriate places on the pattern before starting to cut.

Very nice pattern, but I agree with others, change the font to make it look better.

Ok I added some bridges to the lettering and numbers and changed the color to a more gray to be able to follow the lines without the blade blending in the black, what do ya'll think, It looks like its ready to be cut I hope.

Nice pattern. You need to check for floaters. Looks like a small one on the nose and a big one in the arm. Maybe others but those two stand out. They should be easy to bridge, but you probably need 3 bridges for that arm.

The text looks good but you could also look at some of the scroll or stencil fonts that are already bridged.

Dang that nose didn't see that one, the arm won't be cut all around will go to a point then veining to step in to give detail, so the whole arm won't fall out though I thought about cutting the whole arm out but gives a bog empty spot don't think that would look right.

Ok did a couple changes to it, fix the floaters, the nose I wanted to keep the little corner but they didn't like it and wanted dashes instead of periods, also fixed the arm to show where i want to vein it for detail so it still shows part of a outline of a arm, this is or should be the final one.

Looks good! like Rapid roger mentioned ,you can use whichever font you want .After you print it,you can manually add bridges so that they dont fall off.

Yea but I have found its hard to follow pencil or pen marks, I rather do it with the pattern so I know that its a cut and not some mark I made or forget why I made the mark in the first place, lol.

You might add WordArt font to your arsenal if you do not have it.  It is very similar to Hobo but specifically for scroll saws and you do not need any bridges.  A useful font for many projects.  It is a free font and you can get it at:

Hobo is also a great scroll font for many projects as it has nothing going below the line.
