Cockatoos
« on: December 31, 2013, 02:30:49 pm »
This pattern was found in the November 2013 issue of Creative Woodworks and Crafts.  It is by Linda David, and contains 170+ pieces.  Wad definitely a challenge and somewhat intimidating as I have never before attempted an Intarsia with so many tiny pieces.  Its not all that large at approximately 12 x 10 inches, but definitely not for a beginner.

I used Poplar, Aspen, Walnut, yellowheart, Paduck, and the backing is a slab of Pine, that I stained with Minwax Golden Oak Stain.

That is really lovely.  I had a couple of their family in my garden this morning.   Very noisy birds.

It looks great. I have not tried anything that good yet. My first intarsia was a pretty big bite but it was my own design. I need to try another one. This one you made is very nice. Good colors and very nice finish. I could never get my wood to shine like that.

Your choice of woods, shaping, and talent really stand out on this deceptively difficult piece.  I love what you did with it!   Sincerely honored that you chose one of my designs to do......Linda David.

Linda,  I thank you...for the wonderful design.  Without pattern makers such as yourself, willing to sell, or share these patterns, I would not be able to make the pieces that I make.  This is a hobby I truly enjoy, but I know that I could never draw well enough to make such realistic patterns.

I am extremely pleased that as the original artist, you like what I have done with your hard work.  To get words of encouragement from the fantastic people on these forums, is great.  To get those words from the artist themselves, is extraordinary.

Hats off, to all the pattern makers.
