UPDATE ON USING THE BASSWOOD.... :+(
« on: June 22, 2013, 05:47:32 pm »
Well for those that have posted to my earlier post I just want to say that I got to the
point after cutting say 7 areas.  It is a very DUSTY sawdust.  Not good for cutting
with only a couple fans.  Way to much of a mess!  The blank was 10 X 15 OVAL.  Not exactly on the easy side to control cutting.  I say the 7 areas could get by, but just
not my Quality, so I QUIT.  Yep!  Shelfed it for MAYBE later.  Danny  :+}

Aww man! Well that sucks. I didn't seem to have much trouble with my project. Maybe rig up your shop vac or something under the saw while you cut it.

Well I took the Plaque of Joshua 25:15 off the shelf.  Looked again and maybe it does
look OK.  Think I will give it another go today with a better dust collection.  Danny :+}

All's going Well....Rigged up the Shop Vac. with a small fan blowing directly at the
area where all the cutting goes on.  Also set up a Square fan sucking any dust that
gets by the shop vac.  Works GREAT.  Still....Basswood (like some said) creates
very FINE dust particles.  Hey Friends....another....LIVE AND LEARN.

My first feelings towards this wood is I Probably Will Not Purchase it again.  LOL

I don't think I have ever had a scroll saw project where I had the thought -   Onl 20  cuts left. I enjoy what ever I cut and my thoughts are usually -  Dang only 20 more cuts and I have to find another project. Like  Dusty Dan, I have had projects that when complete, I knew I was unlikely to do another like it.

Working with a cantankerous piece of wood can suck the joy right out of a project in my experience.  I've had projects turn from a "labor of love" to a "labor of labor" myself.  I think that wanting to give up but then becoming determined to see it through in spite of the difficulties is admirable.
