I received and installed my new BigFoot Lift-N-Lock today. Seems pretty straight forward. Fortunately I found Steve's video on youtube as mine didn't come with instructions. I actually mounted my rear bolts opposite from what Steve showed in his video. It just made more sense to me doing it that way. I also put a small brass washer between the front spacer and the thumb screw. I had one sitting there and thought it might prolong the life of the spacers. As designed, it seemed like the head of the thumbscrew would eventually dig into the spacer and chew it up with frequent use.
I really look forward to trying this new accessory out.. I just completed my second portrait and it was a pretty detailed one. Lots and Lots of threading my blade through the wood. Every time I thought to myself, boy I wish that Lift-N-Lock thing would show up soon ;-) Seriously, it was a struggle to feed my 12x12 ply with the arm in the down position. I put my girlfriend to work holding the arm up for me while I threaded the blade, but I guess that became old real quick for her. Ha Ha...
I was tempted to spray paint the Lift-n-lock Yellow to match my Dewalt Saw. I may go back and do that as time permits. Krylon Fusion should work on the plastic arm, if they make it in Dewalt yellow color. Maybe BigFoot Products will take my idea and start using Dewalt Yellow for a more stock appearance (of course if they like my idea, the could ship me one, and engrave it with Dewalt 788, Hint hint).. Also thinking of mounting a bracket where the bolts come through at the rear of the Lift-n-lock. It would be a good place to mount my combination Magnifying glass / light. Mmmm, another useful idea for BigFoot Products ;-)
I did miss out on their FREE Engraving offer.. I ordered mine on the last day of March and the free engraving offer is for April.. Darn it, Just my luck, I'm always in the wrong place and the wrong time and miss all the good deals...
