New saw
« on: April 01, 2013, 06:51:23 pm »
I have been onthe forum in the past and I bought an old saw that got me completely frustrated and I just gave up for a while.  Saturday, I brought home a Dewalt  DW 788 and spent Sunday afternoon putting the stand together and now I plan on becoming a scrollsawer.

I hope you understand the addiction that comes with a scroll saw. ::) You have to treat the hobby with respect and the ability to walk away when your spouse calls. When you find yourself yelling back "IN FEW MINUTES" it is time to get help. You can call the Scroller Addiction hotline. 1-800-SAW-DUST.
Enjoy your new saw. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Welcome back Dale! You have a great saw to learn on. But be careful, scrolling can be hypnotizing!

I bought a cheap scroll saw took it back got a craftsman and haven't looked back or stopped since, I am always looking patterns to cut out or projects to do with it. I got hooked pretty darn fast, in fact I used mine for a non pattern cut when I was making a zero clearance plate for my table saw had to cut the curved ends.

I wanted to thank everyone who responded.  I enjoyed the warmth from you all.  I have spend just a little time with the say and I know that I have a somewhat steep learning curve.  It is much better than the saw I originally used.  I plan on spending some time this weekend getting some practice.

You can only be good as your tools and equipment will allow, if you have the best built stuff you will get great results and be faster than cheap tossed built junk, but that junk is good to begin with see if you will like then step up when your skills allow. I have had so much fun scrolling, most of my stuff has been give aways, but one I was paid for.

No saw will make you an instant success as a scroller, that will take practice and more practise, but with the saw you have just purchased that practice will be a pleasure. Just remember what King said about your spouse calling, otherwise you might find yourself banned from the workshop  :o :o

Now since you have entered into this addiction willingly let me prescribe good lighting for the eyes, good cushion seat for the tush, good ventilation for the lungs, (air filter), plenty of blades, stockpile of wood and a camera so you can share pictures with us. Ha Ha. This is the Dr's orders. Enjoy the Addiction. Steve
