Which software for patterns

Good evening all. I am curious to learn what all software is being used to draw patterns. I am interested in maybe giving it a try. I have been reading and watching videos on portraits using GIMP.

If you are looking for free software Inkscape is pretty good.

There are lots of videos on using Inkscape for scroll patterns.

I use Gimp and Inkscape. They are both free downloads. There is a good tutorial for the process here:

You can see examples all through here but mostly under Home/Pattern Requests.

I use Gimp to start, then Inkscape, then back to Gimp to finalize. Those threads given are very usefull, but  only a guide and are for older versions of the software. Some of the numbered steps want you to use things that are not there in the newer version you would get today. But don't be scared! Play with it. Practice, practice....

sholarj, there are a handful of very talented pattern makers on here. Do as I did. Download the software that EIEIO and jrpeteo have suggested, play with them by following the tutorial then ask questions. These guys have been REAL GREAT and very patient and helpful to boot. Sometimes the whole ordeal gets frustrating for me as I'm learning also, but when I see the patterns that these guys come up with, I get another rush of motivation. I am having fun though and that's what its all about.
