That awesome, there is a lot of work involved in that, how long did it take?
Thank you for all the kind comments on the other post ,The previous City Manager saw the two wooden covered bridges I had built ,came over to my house and asked If I would make the city a model Of the Historic Milam Bridge ,for thier restoration efforts of the bridge ,for getting grants etc.
We went to the ruins of the bridge 1/2 mile from my house ,been closed down for years and falling apart
and took pictures ,She came back over a week later ,and ask me would I and the cost ! I told her the city would never pay what it would cost ,but If the City would pay for the materials ,I would build it ,and loan it to the city ,but I would retain ownership ,I thought she was going to kiss me .
Many many photos ,lazer measurments ,physical measurements of everything I could reach ,Sketches
and more sketches ,used to build cardboard prototype ,thats hangs from it ceiling in the pix .That took a week or so . Commondeering ,a good friend and his metal shop for two week ends we cut and bent angles ,I-beams ,gussets siderails Etc on his shear and foot break ,a lot of trial and error and scrap, trying to keep in matching sizes and shapes ,small sizes are not forgiving when they have to match
and join together .Returned everything to my shop ,build layout jigs ,assembly jigs ,drilling jigs ,set up
took about a week ,construction started ,underestimated steel components another day rebending etc.
All this is trial and error ,working off rough sketche photo's and the cardboard proto type ,a lot of head scratching and coffee .I ate ,slept & drank that bridge for the next month threading cross rods ,slotting angle cross rod holes and nutting ,big fingers sm. nuts !about the only thing on that bridge I did not have to make was the 1/4"ply wood floor ,just wood burn the planks and nail heads ,the mock riverbase
has mirrors ,to view details of bridge bottom .Side note {I did this once and went to post and was timed out,and lost it all ,so this explaination was costly to my attempt to answer with some detail} Carl
for those who might be interested ,if you go to the gear in the upper right hand corner of the screen click it set to 400%+ you can see much more detail ,most may already know ,but some may not !
I'm going to post now, I you don't read this it's ,well you know!
