Pete (yyyyguy) was here for a visit and he received his new DW788 and set it up...
He wanted some advice and pointers and when he told me about it I suggested he return it!!!

Seems his new 788 has severe front to back play in the blade travel.

He is going to check with 'dgman' and Rick H. but I think it is going to have to be returned.

Tough break....

Thats to bad.  I know how he feels, I had to return my DW788 too.  The tensioning wasn't working properly.  They replaced it with no questions asked and the new one is working fine.

I hope he gets it straightened out.

So much back to front 'wiggle' that he has to start a cut line "by guess and by golly"!
Cannot place the wood exactly against the blade and has to guess where the cut is going to start.

He is visiting here in the area and dropped in to check mine and said his is just no where near that accurate.

My skil that I had did that the blade would move front to back kinda like a hopping action plus it had side to side wiggle. Was hard to get a line started as soon you touched wood the blade would jump back and off line or make the wood vibrate. I over come it somewhat with the way the blade was mounted in the clamps, but with the Dewalt it should be perfect out of the box.

I'm afraid he is going to have to send it back. DeWalt has a thirty day replacement guarantee and Amazon just wants to make you happy.

That was my advice...I think he is calling cust serv today and making arrangements...won't be back home til next Wed. Then he has to get rid of all the snow in his driveway!!!

That is exactly what it does, I'll start a new cut and it sometimes jumps out of that cut into one I just finished.  Very frustrating, that  is even worse than the Dremel I just replaced.

I'll be home after Christmas and will try a few ideas dgman has, if they don't work it's going back.  My darling wife (Santa) feels bad cuz she thinks she got me a lemon, think DeWalt will give me anything for pain and suffering .  Thanks for the comments,  Pete

From what I read about scroll saws there are two types that are made the basic end saws use a parallel arm this cause the blade to have a slight movement from to back when its running, the dewalt is a parallel link arm, this setup makes the blade move smooth up down not move front to back and limits the vibration to little if any. Being dewalt its a very well built tool, if I could all my power tools would be dewalt. I am pretty sure they will get you fixed up.

Actually Pete, DeWalt will bend over backwards to make there customers happy. I was talking to a DeWalt rep at Woodcraft a few months ago. I told him about my original fifteen year old saw breaking down and having to replace it. He said to bring it into the store and he would replace it, and he did! So now I have two working saws!
So if Amazon gives you any problem (I'm sure they won't), contact DeWalt directly.

Thats customer service and loyalty and quality. Wish there was more places like that would back there products up.

I had the same problem with my new DeWalt took it to a local repair center they said it was fine.I found out how to fix it myself on Ricks scroll saw site now all is well. These saws were not built properly and they have lost any future business from me.
