What did this mean I asked back in 2007.
The movie October Sky, I always heard of it , but never seen it till the spring of 2007, it was kinda a fluke I was thumbing tru the channels on tv, and thought I always wanted to see this movie, and finally watched it. I never had anything hit me so hard, so close to home..Not for sale.....
It was before labor day and I called this # I got off the web to meet up with this special man that was a part of the rocket boys in West Virginia. Mr. Red Carrol. He trusted me and told me to come on down and he would tell me the story of the Rocket boys, and the life of Homer Hickam , so that labor day weekend I headed down south east and at the Corner Store I called him and we met.
Folks it was a living history lesson. But this one thing I can always see in my mind was his cap on his head that said, Not for sale.
I finally had to ask what that ment, and Red asked me if I believed in God. I said yes sir, always have and all he gives us. Then he told me, my wife said before she droped me off to meet you someone gonna knock you in the head and leave you in the dirt, and he said I'll write I love you Jesus in the dirt before I die. The Not for sale. That was his soul....
We sat for awhile back at the Corner store and he showed me all the picture books of how Coalwood was back in Homer's life, then I took him to his home and he showed me around of the flowers garden he planted, his bee hives for making honey and coal art from the artist's from all around West Virgina..
He passed away last year, but someone you always remember...
