Record Puzzle

I was watching an episode of American Pickers the other night. While they were picking through some old barn they came upon an old record puzzle. The concept was that in the mid 1900's a record had been made with pictures of singers on it. That was in turn cut into a puzzle. This whole concept was quite intriguing to me. Been thinking of a way to make some records into a puzzle like the one I saw. Anyone here ever seen such a thing?

Seems like Vinyl records are a bit brittle.   I wonder if they would chip and crack while being cut.

I am thinking it could be done if you slowed the saw down a lot so as not to melt the vinyl.

I would think it would be necessary to keep the vinyl record warm (like stained glass) if it is cold it would probably shatter.  just a thought!  I must have missed that episode of American Pickers....

You might have to sandwich the vinyl beetween two thin pieces of wood.

I saw on TV a while back where this guy buys old Vinyl records.  Heats them up, and uses a vaccuum system to mold the soft records in the shape of a bowl.  He then covers them with some kind of protectant and sells them at craft shows as serving bowls.  He prices them depending on how popular the records were.   He leaves the label on the record which makes it neat...    Wish I could find that video clip.   Wouldn't mind trying it myself.

Now look you "kids"!

I have about 190 vinyl albums I am currently (slowly) converting to DVD's and I will have lots of 'scrollable' material when they are converted!
I have seen some pretty interesting things cut from the old 'vinyl'!!!

And yes...the first job I had we would to dictate 'collection' letters and they were done on old wax cylinders and after they were transcribed the cylinders were run through  sort of 'lathe' that took off enough of the coating so that they could be re-used!
