Hey guys, I am having a problem with my saw.I have been using it since 1998 and it had never acted up before.Lately while cutting the blade speed changes by itself.Anyone know what that could be or is it time for a checkup?As usual any help will be greatly appreciated......Dave

Hi Dave....  Can't offer you any concrete way to fix it yourself (unless you are real good with the electrical etc.)  Know there are a sort of contact area inside the speed control knob.  Bet you were really surprised the very first time you were cutting away on a project and the saw sped up.  Bout as bad as when a blade breaks. LOL Danny

Hi Dave. Are you oiling the bearings on your Hegner.I hate to say this but from what you say it sounds like the capacitor could be on its way out if its going slow and then fast, best get it checked out.

If as Danny suggested it is the control knob then http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.293/.f is the place to look for Faderlube. It is expensive, and I agonised for days before buying, but all the reviews put this one at the top of the list every time. It will also lubricate lots of other things and really it's a cheap solution to a problem.

It could be something else on the PCB, and a dry joint is possible. You just have to start somewere.

The capacitor is just a phase shifter, and the motor would most likely fail to start if the cap had degraded.

had this on my Hegner a few years ago.
replaced the electronic board of the variable speed and problem was gone.
