custom scroll saw bench
« on: October 21, 2012, 02:01:47 pm »
Finally finished my scroll saw bench. I will build another bench 8' long that fits next to this bench on the left side. To the right of this bench is a cubby that will fit my dust collector . I still have to get a chair thats more comfortable . I used my computer chair as a model to get the height right. This bench is sturdy, no movement and barley any vibration.

I can only see one thing that might cause a problem later. If you are making anything large, won't it hit the raised section of the bench either side of the saw as you swing it round while cutting? apart from that it looks a really sturdy bench, nicely made too.

I really liked the bank, but I have the same opinion of Keefie, what will happen when something big cuts.

I really don't saw big things. The saw has a 16in capacity and I have the saw pulled out 7 in. past the front of the bench. I get about a 15 in. swing before I would hit the side. The biggest portrait I cut was 12 x 12. Most pieces for intarsia are not that big either. Will be fine for my needs.

A lot nicer than my shop space. I have an old army foot locker stacked on top of 2 plastic storage bins. It sets at a height I feel comfortable cutting without bending over. Not the best set up but for a poor man like me it works. And it is better than what I was doing. Embarrassed to say, I was working off the floor for a long time. Nice bench you made, glad it works for you.

Glad it works for you Dean.  I too would have problems with the size limitation, but then - to each his own.  Hope you have many hours of enjoyment on the saw and well built bench.  Enjoy!

vibration is minimal. Obviously the faster the machine runs, you get a little more. I'm building an 8 ft bench that runs perpendicular to this one and I'm going to tie it together. Should be real sound then.

Thanks for the nice words. As soon as I get the other bench built, I'll post more pics
