FYI...SAW Expo....

Just an aside mention...

EVERY scroll saw that was being demonstrated at the SAW Expo was being run with a 'dead man' FOOT SWITCH!

Most of the people doing work at the show had the EX-21!

The new line of Bushton/Hawk are as they were in the past built like tanks and would be my choice after the Excalibur.
IF EX maintains their quality they will be hard to beat.
Grizzly did not have a scroll saw on display, only a bandsaw. They were trying to get folks to go visit their showrooms which are also in Springfield.

The only other saw on display was the PS Machines saw and it is a DUD due to the crappy blade change system.

There were no other manufacturers there showing saws.
Maybe some of our 'correspondents will be attending the WI show and can provide more detailed info on other saws.

BUT, it seems that really serious scrollers use the EX21!!!

Thanks for the info.  I must not be serious  :D  But then I had that bad experience with the EX.
And it seems like a lot of this group have had troubles with it too.  Guess I will stick with my delta and get "serious"  ;)when something newer and greater comes along.

It really surprises me that there have been an increase in post on the EX21 issues.  I bought my saw from Ray almost 10 years ago and it was used when I bought it.  Outside of minor adjustments, my saw has never let me down.  There was a time that I used it all day - every day.  When it finally breaks down, I won't hesitate to replace it with another EX (I think I'll go with the EX30 next time).  It got my kids through college and I know if I ever had to, I could support myself on what I can do with it.

It is good to hear the good stuff too.  I would like to go somewhere where they can tell me about it and maybe try it out.  Having only one good working hand, maybe I just didn't figure it out.

Unfortunatly here in North Dakota, my nearest dealer is 100 miles away, and all they know about it is that "yep, thats a saw alright".

Julief.....Thanks for the input.  Wow! You must do great with it .  It would be wonderful to make that much money with it.  What I make keeps me in wood, blades and out of the bars ;D ;)

The only way I could support myself with my scroll saw would be to tie it to my leg as a splint. Most of what I make is given to family and friends, as it doesn't seem to sell that well at craft fairs but at least my woodturning bits sell a little better enabling me to buy more wood, tools and finishes.
It's all a case of "Mind over Matter",  The Government don't Mind, and I don't Matter.

It wasn't easy.  The craft fairs were only part of it.  Alot of my stuff went into gift shops, christian book stores and galleries.  It can get hard to keep up with but I was a single mother for 21 years and sometimes I needed more money.  You do what you have to do.  Most of my stuff now is just for family and friends but I still get those "word of mouth" referals.  I rarely say no, but it is nice to have the option.
