Proud dad!
« on: June 13, 2012, 02:49:08 am »
YES!!
my daughter got the final phone message yesterday.
she's graduated for her pedagogical worker on MBO!!
(MBO is a dutch middle level professional education, think about the same level as finishing high school, because next level is (HBO) college )
we went out eating yesterday to celebrate.
the graduation ceremony will be in two weeks, but with getting the phone call it's official now.

as a good dutch tradition we hang out a flag with a bag in top for a couple of days.

I'm so proud!

Yea Hey! Way to go. Going out to eat is my way to celebrate!!!

But I gotta ask....what is "pedagogical worker"

as far as I know:
they work with Children, educating them on social behavior.
she's not a teacher who will learn children "stuff" (a teacher is a higher level HBO)
but she can be an assistant of a teacher.
all kind of activities and monitoring and reporting to parents and if necessary to all kind of authorities.

she had an internship the last year on a medical day care center with multiple limited/disabled children. (some with severe autism) children in the age up to 12/13 y.o. with the mental capabilities of a child of 1,5/2 y.o.
keeping a daily program for them, activities, eating, sleeping, giving medicine, etc.

a part of her exam was to make a complete business case to startup and run a new "after school (day)care" center.

Congratulations to both you and your daughter. I have been a special education teacher for 24 years. It is tough job and sometimes heart wrenching to work with kids who find it so hard to do things that others find so easy. However, there is no feeling so great as the feeling you get when you know you have made a positive inpact on another persons life. "What are we here for but to help others".  Her rewards will be few but when they happen, they happen big time.
