Illnesses
« on: July 02, 2010, 02:47:06 am »
Hi Janet your appeal for help for MIL was justified and I'm pleased that you reiceved good advice, we are all getting older and in some cases like my self, we will probably need assistance at some stage of the journy of life, and it is nice to know you are doing the right thing by your MIL.
I try to joke a bit about my wife and I by trying to lift our spirits on old age but one can not deny the fact that it will happen to all of us at some stage.
But it is great to be alive and doing what we like best

I have been on both ends of the 'caring and being cared for' and it gives one a great appreciation of what may come!
Too many of those that need care do not have someone like Janet!
I truly believe that 'caregivers' achieve a 'special place' in the hereafter!

Thank you for your kind words.  I'm certain that my MIL would do this for me had I been sick.  And she has 2 sons and a daughter that are helping care for her also.  My MIL is a kind, caring, generous person... and what they say in life is true - You get what you give.  Good things come to those who are good to others.

But you know what?  It's not just her that gains from this.  Although it is extremely stressful and wears you out, you also get something yourself when you take care of another human being.

I'm sure you all will be cared for too if needed. You are all such kind spirits.

Janet. You are a very caring person. We need more like you. My wifes step-father was diagnosed with cancer about 10 years ago. He had 2 daughters & a son. Well when he became non-ambulatory, it was my mother-in-law, my wife, myself, and an organization named Hospise that were there to take care of him. Never did his children ever stop in to see him. Until the end, the night he died. We were there to care & do what we were able to do. We never expected a thing in return. We did it becaused we loved him. Well you can guess what happened next. Like a bunch of vultures. The day after he passed on, here they came, demanding this & that. They thought they were going to come in and take charge. Well lo and behold. Bill had seen what was happening. And he made his wishes know to his attorney. My mother-in-law & my wife were in charge of the funeral, and his kids were sent packing. Sad when you think about it. Yeah... it is sad.  "For the love of money is the root of all evil..."  People who covet money are never happy.  You can work your butt off for money and one day POOF! it's gone.  Pointless.

I'm a firm believer also in when you give, you get back tenfold.  I also believe there are angels among us :)

I guess you all think I'm wacky now.   :D

What's wrong with being a little Wacky? Your hearts in the right place.
That's what matters the most. Every time a bell rings an Angel get its wings.
There it goes again.

Dave I had the same thing when my husband died. His kids (eight) & his former wife had treated him shamefully. Then they started to think they had rights. I planned the funeral according to his wishes - they were so angry at me. Thankfully I had great family support & then a good Solicitor who delt with them on my behalf. It took over 12 months to sort them out permanently from my life!!
