Thanks everybody!  They were oooh'd and aaah'd over on both counts.  Absolutely the best feeling when you see someone's eyes light up over something you made for them!  ;)

@Danny --- The screws for those hinges were too long (3/8") for the 1/4" wood, however, simply snipping them in half with a pair of side cutters took care of that.  Still left enough thread on the shaft of the screw to hold firmly, and I pre-drilled the holes, so I didn't need a point on the screws anyway!

 :D There are a LOTf people that have no idea what a side cutter is.  Great idea.  I have usually just sanded down screws that were to long.
