You know it's time to quit when.....
« on: March 23, 2012, 05:36:50 pm »
Yesterday I tried to drill a hole with the drill in back to front and I was wondering why I could not drill a nice hole  ::)
Nothing happened. I decided it was time to quit for the day, this was a sure sign for me.
Anybody else tried my drill trick  :-[

Hi Dawie, your'e not on your own my friend, I've done it many times. After around forty years in the trade you must do it at least once. In my defence, twice it was done by some comedian swapping the drill around when I was on a break lol. Keefie, your turn will come my friend, hopefully not too soon lol.

The other night I decided it was time to quit for the evening when i touched one finger of my left hand to a spinning bit in the router table.  Those spiral carbide bits sure are efficient at flesh removal!  No real damage done, but it sure woke me up!

A few months ago one of the members of our woodturning club was planing a 6in wide 3ft long plank of wood on his thickness/planer. He decided as it only needed a couple of passes he wouldn't look for his "push stick". When he got home from the hospital he had lose the top sections of three of his fingers. The moral is - Dont take chances with thickness/planers, as they don't give you second chances.

Gotta go with Moonie on this one.  I too have put a blade in backwards, usually one of the 2/0 blades.

They just cut funny that way.

Ditto on all of the above except the planer. When we become too comfortable around these machines, that is when the accidents begin to happen. :'(   So always have a little fear and be cautious out there in the shed.
