Hey Malc. The thing to remember is BB is made up of multiple layers of wood all with glue between each layer. The thicker the stack, the more glue layers you are cutting. Its the dried glue that wears out the blade faster than the wood alone. 1/2" is the thickest I'm comfortably with, although I have been cutting 5/8" lately. For accuracy I would stick to no more than 1/2" or four layers of 1/8". So for your project, I would cut two stacks of three.
