Amazon.com...how do they do it?
« on: January 25, 2012, 05:16:58 pm »
Long story short, have to replace the fuel sending unit in my Ford truck. Dealer wants $900+ to do it, my mechanic wants $650+ to do it. So, i'll do it myself. Dealer sells the part for $433, local parts stores for about $369, but Amazon has it for $228. Same part, free shipping, cheapest price I can find for the identical part. Will update you if anything "odd" happens, but right now I'm an Amazon fan. :)

It is nice to have Amazon for times like that. My guess the unit is in the tank. Not a hard job but take your time so not to break the lines or wiring harness.

The part is the same, from Motorcraft, just amazed at the price difference. Ford is a big co., but man do they jack up their prices. I thought Amazon was just for books and such, never thought of them for auto parts. Thanks for the internet.

@Hamilton: Thanks for the tip. Job seems easy enough. I'll be lifting the bed of the truck vs. dropping the tank. I'll make sure to be careful with the lines and wires.

But that is not Amazon selling the part - right? Never heard of Amazon selling car parts.

Good luck. Pulling the bed can lead into other problems though. Soak the bolts good with a quality penetrating oil and work with a buddy.

Auto parts link. Just one of many, often if they don't actually carry the product they have associated stores that do, linked to the product you are shopping for. I've been happy with shopping at Amazon, but I prefer to buy from them direct rather than from the associated store. often saves me money on the shipping.
