Intarsia, My First Car.
« on: May 25, 2010, 06:32:14 pm »
This is an Intarsia I made from a picture of my first car, I bought it back in 1949; The upper picture is there to show I put celluloid, clear Plastic, in the car windows; I also put a door in the backer so I can change the background picture when necessary.

That's really nice!  Did you draw your own pattern up too?

That is really cool!!! Now youv'e got me interested in intarsia!!
My first car was 1947 Ford. (The old hump back, fat fendered style) Cost me $50.00 in 1959. :)
Would have to cut out of ebony because it was black of course! :)

Hi Scrollgirl, Yes I have been making my own patterns for several years and love it. I've probably made close to 100 from my patterns.

To Rapid Roger, When I want a Dark color, like Black, I prefer using Black Walnut; It's a whole lot easier to cut and looks good finished. Ebony is very dense and weighs about 65#/cubic foot; It would be a real Blade Eater, LOL

Great car.  We had one on the farm when I was growing up.  I really like the colors Al.  I have a pattern designed for another car that I finished last weekend but leaving town for a couple weeks so it will be the end of June before its ready.  For black colors, I order Alowood Ebony or Alowood Blue.  Do a quick search on Alowood.  It is radiata (sp?) pine that gets organically treated to make it hard so it can be used as flooring.  At the same time, they add coloring so it looks like oak, ebony, silver walnut, teak, etc.  And it cuts nice also.
