My EX is eight years old and the top is fine.  It has some coating on it and all I have to do is keep it clean.  It has never scratched or gouged and I have been a little abusive to it.  It doesn't even need waxed.  The coating is slick and the wood slides easily.

My understanding is that it's a wedge shaped club used for hitting small white balls around.  Not sure why you'd bring it up on a scrolling forum?!  ;) ;D

Irons are so-called because their clubheads are made of metal. Of course, "woods" are now also made of metal, but that's a relatively recent development. Irons have featured metal clubheads (steel, these days) for centuries.  ::)  ::)  ::)

Your right,  ;)but It looks so nice, and my old one was torn up from use ;D I suppose it is like getting a new car and wanting to buy seat covers. And, doesn't everyone iron their jeans?? :o

I have to wonder how you could tear up a cast iron scroll saw table. Were you using it for an anvil?
Once you get beyond trying to impress the girls, who cares if your jeans or your shirt is ironed anymore, besides they make permanent press nowadays. LOL
