Keep the angle the same. It keeps the wall thickness and spacing the same throughout the bowl and doesn't require complicated geometry.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you but, don't stop trying.
If you can get your hands on a copy of "Wooden Bowls from the scroll saw" by Carole Rothman it will tell you everything you need to know and more. It is a paperback book and costs about $20.00 US. Steve Good recommended it and I got a copy and it is worth every cent. You might even find a copy at your local library if it is a larger library.

I was thinking more about this. You might want to try a basket instead of a bowl. Bowls require lots and lots and lots of sanding, even when cut well.
Steve has a couple of baskets that would make you practice curves. Being a little off here and there won't make a huge difference in the basket. Give it a try!

Hi Jason:
Keep in mind, if you are going to try the bowls, you can always enlarge the patterns which makes it easier to see/cut.
mrsn is right in saying that if you are off the lines a bit it really isn't a big deal
Good Luck
