Puzzel Blades
« on: December 21, 2011, 08:51:32 pm »
Well I better get this in the right place to ask these kind of questions.  Here is some dumb quuestions.

1.  On Mikes site of the blades, what does the SR, UR stand for.

2.  I have always used Olson blades like #2R 13/7, or a #2  20 tooth blade.  How can I compare them to mikes?

Hey Gene, UR stands for Ultra Reverse. SR stands for scroll reverse. For stand up puzzles you can use an Olsen #5R or 7R. Or Olsen 5 or 7 skip tooth or anything in that neighborhood. These are just suggestions. Use what works for you.
Whatever you use, Don't use the FD special puzzle blades for stand up puzzles as they are designed for zig saw puzzles or don't use spiral blades for stand up puzzles as the kerf will be too wide.

a good way to compare the  blades is look at the width and thicknes of the blades  you will see that the numbers are way differnt of the 2  mikes blades dont go as small as the 2/0  olsen in the reverse blades  but he does have the puzzle blades that are small  they are a standerd tooth blade   they are great for puzzles and small fretwork where you need the detail they are not as thick and dont remove as much wood so pices fit alot tighter.     but look at the thickness and width and you can see witch way you want to go
the number is just a size that the give the blade  it is not a standerd number so the 2 are differnt beteen the 2

Gene,
Best way to compare them is getting a sample of the UR blades. They are now my biggest seller.
Just send your address.

Bill P.
Gave me a bunch of the FD #1UR blades they cut great and no whiskers on the back of the wood, they do cut a little more agressively than the SR blades.
