Question on tension

Ok I have a friend that uses a ryobi scroll saw.. He is having trouble with the tension backing off.. What could cause this.. I can handle my saw but someone elses is a different story.. Any ideas are welcome... Thanks for the help... Sheila

Blades that are a bit dirty or oily can slip from the blade holders. cleaning the ends of the blades or the blade holders helps this.
I am sure there could be a mechanical reason but I don't know about that saw.

yeah, most likely the blade slips.
He should use same sand paper and run it through the clamps to make the screw get a better hold on the blade.

And he should get in here.

I had a Ryobi saw for a while and never had a problem with the tension backing off, once it is tight you shouldn't have any problem, perhaps they don't have enough tension on the blade

Ok I showed him how to clean the blade before inserting it, so that isn't the problem.. When he is sawing the tension backs off.. Any ideas would be appreciated... Sheila

I don't know the saw but it sounds like the tension knob is backing off, on my Delta the tension bolt has a spring on it to prevent that from happening, maybe it could do with something like that on this saw or maybe wrapping some plumbers ptfe tape on the threads will help.
