U of F gator pattern
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:10:31 pm »
I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can locate and or if anyone has made their own scroll saw pattern for the University of Florida mascot, gator.  My son went there and I'd like to do something for him for Christmas.  Thanks for your help.

Hey Mecop, Albert the Gator is copyrighted and can't be posted here. However if the pattern makers would like to do it, It will have to be done behind the scenes.
By the way, Welcome to the forum! go over to the Introduction page and introduce yourself!

I don't know if it will help for this or not but I have found that looking for "pumpkin carving patterns" and "spray paint stencils" can be helpful. The people doing things like that must not be as careful about copyright issues. You may have some luck with that.
Also, if you do a google image search you can specify different types of images to find. If you click on "line drawing" some of the images that come up can easily be converted into patterns.

That's great advice.  I'll give it a try.  Thanks.

I will also say you can take the current U of F gator logo and make an easy scroll saw pattern out of it. (Ask me how I know!  ::)

It should also work quite well as an intarsia or segmentation.

I also believe some of the old gator logos are not copyrighted (please verify this with the school it you find one and decide to use it outside of a gift) which is what lead UF to change their logo a number of years ago and made sure it was copyrighted.

Have fun and let us know what you end up doing.

Like Karl said, it would be real easy to make your own pattern. I did one using a team logo off the internet, and then using Gimp to create a pattern for my personal use. I'm no pattern maker, so if I can do it, you sure can. It was pretty easy, and you get to learn how to make your own patterns from whatever picture you want.

Good luck!
