I followed your advice Rog and gripped the blade very firmly between thumb and forefinger,
I used pliers to hold the blade and pulled it out..  but there is blood either way  :(

Maybe thats because there are teeth facing in both directions, I did try measuring the amount of blood on either direction.. but it was very difficult and I have now run out of kitchen towel.

I don't think it was a very good suggestion as I tried it several times and now my bandaged fingers look like I can get a part in a mummy film.

Well Dave, I didn't say it was the BEST way to find out about which way the teeth ran. I just suggested that it was ONE way!  ::)

grip the blade with your thumb and index finger and pull up really fast  but make sure you have 911 on standby..

I may be making things to simple but the cotton from pill bottles go to the work shop.  Most of the blades I use are very small and I have found that when you slide a small piece of cotton down the blade it will catch on the blade not pointing in the direction of the slide.  But I know that is way to easy.
