Glue Up Question

I am building a clock and intend to finish it by dipping in lemon oil and then spraying a clear finish. The clock is the hummingbird  pattern and I presume you dipped it in lemon oil per your usual finish procedure. My question is did you glue it prior to gluing or did you do the glue up first and then dip it. If glue up and then dip I worry about putting in the clock insert when all the finish work is completed. I have the inserts fitting snugly and worry trying to push them in the assembled piece could be a problem. My first experience with clock inserts so a little unsure how I want to proceed. Thanks for the help.

Do the glue-up before dipping.  The insert will fit fine.

Ditto. Use compressed air to blow the residual oil out, and clean up as much oil as you can. Let it dry for at least a day before applying a top coat.

Thanks for the advise. My judgement said glue first, I just don't have any experience with the clock inserts. Appreciate your help.
