Best scrolling Magazine?
« on: March 27, 2011, 03:19:28 am »
What magazines do you subscribe to, and why do you like them? Include prices too.
We don't have a news stand only the local Shop Smart grocery store. They have only a limited selection of magazines. Mostly for females or cars for the guys with a few hunting mags.
Thanks for your input.

Hey Gabby, The two biggies are Creative Woodworks and Crafts and Scrollsaw Magazine.  Both have a variety of patterns and styles of cutting.  They also have excellent articles on everything from wood types to technical information and in the back of both of them are the web addresses to the featured artists in that particular issue.  Also, The Winfield Collection has a pattern club.  For about $13.00 you get a collection of patterns about every 6 weeks.  Some are very basic and some are more involved.  They usually have several around the current holiday in any given set.

Scrollsaw has quite a few free downloads of patterns that have appeared in their magazine.  It is the more expensive of the two magazines and you only get 4 issues plus a holiday issue each year. (last year they put out two holiday issues.)  I almost always find something I want to cut out of each magazine.

I have a subscription to the scroll saw magazine. I love it! I ran across a special that gave me 2 years, or 8 magazines and 2 Holiday mags, I think the special was like $29.00. It's well worth it. I've cut a number of the plans from them. I am working on doing all of them if I can.

I think Creative Woodworks & Crafts has issues monthly and ScrollSaw Woodworking & Crafts is quarterly.

I used to take both but now only take Creative Woodworks and Crafts as the other one got too heavy into intarsia and not enough fretwork.  It was too expensive when you seldom found a pattern that was useful.
