GB, I hear ya! I've got a copy of Jane's "All the World's Aircraft" on my bookshelf. Refer to it frequently as I have been a "wing nut" my whole life! I just commented because most people wouldn't even recognise a P-51A as being a P-51. They're used to seeing the P-51Ds on the History channel or such, so when you say P-51, that's what they see in their minds.
As for your grandson, I'm sure you couldn't be more proud! Earning his Navy wings is an accomplishment shared by only a select few. May he have a long (and safe!) career as an aviator, and please let him know his sacrifices ARE appreciated by those of us sleeping comfortably in our own beds each night!
