THIS is what they go through to land on a carrier!

He gets his "wings" on the 22nd...next week!

Great! are we allowed to congratulate yet?

Landing on such a boat must be very exciting. If it does not work out at all the day is ruined.

regards
Torsten

Congratulate as you wish...the official "Winging" ceremony is on the 22nd of January.

Mic told me that when they 'hit the deck' they pull the throttle all the way back UNTIL they hear the the 'landing officer' say "Gotcha" just in case they missed with the 'hook'. BUT they keep their hand ON the throttle!
IF they miss they slam the throttle Full Forward (on command) and take off again for another pass.
He has done over 50 landings already and has only 'missed' once!
Again...TOP of his 'class'!

Grampa is one PROUD dude!!!!

You must be proud. I cannot watch your link though, I get a security message that it's not cleared for the country I am in. Well never mind with all the funny stuff going on in the world you can rather be safe than sorry. Have seen doc on discovery though and it's no easy feat to control those planes on carriers.
You have every right to be a proud grandpa.
David.

I would suspect the blockage is on your end rather than from the US. This sort of video isn't going to give away any military secrets. Perhaps someone on here savvy enough could copy the video and upload it somewhere you could view it.
The recovery at night under stormy conditions can be total terror for the pilot. It takes big ones of steel to do this day after day

It has something to do with the copyrights from PBS (public broadcasting service)

http://www.pbs.org/about/policies/

maybe providers in foreign countries have to pay??

You have me stumped Marcell. PBS isn't much good any more, their best stuff is shown only when they are doing a money drive. The rest of the time it's mostly junk.
Just my opinion, sorry you couldn't view the videos some I have seen are quite good of carrier landings taken from right in the cockpit. No not in the cabin, that is where the passengers ride. LOL
