They were well prepared for this huge cyclone they have just had, with winds exceeding 280kph that flattened every thing in its path over 200,00 house are with out power and untold damage to property and businesses, this is only the tip of the ice berg for these Australian people living in the north east of Australia as they have had severe flooding that has been going on for a number of weeks and has taken many lives and then they are hit by this dreadful thing
I am grateful that my son and family live in south Australia which is 4000 km away from this terrible tragedy

It is a miracle that no one was killed.  It was a huge storm -- a category 5, the same as Katrina was back in 2005.  I can't imagine what it must be like to struggle with the massive flooding and then having something like this happen.  It must be so demoralizing.

Difficult times indeed for our Aussie friends.  They are in my thoughts as well.

One dead one missing, thats not all there is a huge flood warning that followed yasi and that is not good after all the flooding they have already had, huge sugar and banana plantations have been wiped out plus other food sources

Glad you are safe and sound Jimbo. It is going to take years for Australia to recover from this storm.  :)
