Tux IMO it's a cardinal I think????.
Being from the other end of the world not too familiar with USA birds.

"Definitely a 'him' Cardinal!"  Yes, they are that bright red. We have a pair that has taken residence near my house. The male is a shade of red you can?t take your eyes off. Even the brown females sport a sharp crest and warm red accents. Beautiful birds.  :)

Yes, birds are great to see and cheer me up.
Here in Ontario, there are local groups of birding enthusiasts.  They do bird counting in a certain area on a weekend.  Then the sighting of unusual birds seen is reported in the newspaper on the following weekend.  It is always interesting to read about sightings of a species that is not common to see in the area.

I KNOW when a hawk drifts into the area....There is suddenly a disappearance of all my little guests into the large wooded area about 1/4 mi. east of here until friend hawk moves on.
I turned to the window one afternoon and one was perched 'regally' on the top of my feeder pole! Took his picture and immediately invited him to 'vacate the premises' and within 10 minutes the feeders were full of birds.
He thought he was going to get a quick and easy lunch but we fooled him!

Actually GB, I don't mind when our resident hawk shows up. He thins out the rodents that show up to eat the squirrel and bird food.

Cardinals are pretty birds GB. I grew up a redbird fan. Even though well over half my life has now been in the Chicago area. They still pull me.
