Hey guys I was out in the shop yesterday and cut two of these letter openers as well as two more of the Gothic one's too-- these sure are different for sure . I cut them out of the soild 1/4" Walnut material as I use a lot of Walnut for the Ornaments I make also . Any comments welcome ............Another one of Steve Good's Patterns also .....

Great job, but, question?  The fine detail in the handle, is it strong enough to hold up or would they break off with use or stick/cut you when you use it?  Love the design, but, with grandkids around I have to make sure anything I make is safe for them.

nice cutting, they look good. i wouldn't let kids play with these because of the sharp points. to
easy to fall & stick themself or someone else. i am not critizing your work, i like the dark wood

I thought about this question in making these and also who was getting these and they are not sharp enough to cut , BUT no I WOULD NOT have them around for small children either . I thought to myself I sure hope these are not used for a weapon either , so never the less one should be careful whom you make these for . And yes they are a heck of a lot stronger than they look , as a matter of fact the wife has put several that I've already made to the test . These are made for adults only in my thinking ......but if you make these don't make them any thinner than 1/4" soild material . I have read to not use Oak for it's grain is not strong enought , use Walnut - Maple - Mahonhany . Hope this helps........my opinion only ...........
