Does BLO work on paint?
« on: October 30, 2010, 08:07:42 am »
Reading the thread on puzzles I learned what BLO was. I have used it on wood, but can it be used on paint as I make most my puzzles from MDF and paint them, I was just wondering if it would add an extra toucch of finish if I could use BLO.

I don't see any advantage to using BLO over paint.  I would think if you tried it over acrylics you may dissolve the paint.  Not sure never having tried it.

Hey David, I use BLO to bring out the color and grain of the wood, not as a final finish. I apply a spray lacquer as a final finish. So using BLO over paint won't do any good.

BLO is actually an additive used for extending the coverage of OIL based paints and could actually 'soften' the painted surface.

I would DEFINITELY NOT use it over paint!

BLO would not work over paint and as said might damage the paint finish.  8)
