Hi, Malc:
I like KILZ. It is a nice base, goes on quick and does a good job at helping protect. It also makes the color of the ply nice and uniform for painting.

Check at your local paint or hardware store on what is available and there recommendations. Water base primers work well also and easier to clean up. They just take longer to dry.

Hi Malc,
Any wood primer will do the job, I use an acrylic based one(water based)as it is easy to thin for spraying and clean up. Sand before and after applying. B&Q is a good place to start looking.
