Blade Holders with a twist
« on: August 07, 2010, 12:07:54 pm »
I've been going crazy with my blades. They where all in instant coffee bottles, so hard to see which was which and taking up a lot of space, which I don't have much of. So today I decided to do something about it, seeing all the different Blade Holders around here. I had to go to the mall to get some things for the weekend and decided to have a look around and at Xenos they sold ice-lolly holders. I checked the hight(took tape measure with me) and thought this could do ythe job. At $2 a piece I was willing to take a risk, bought 4 and they will work fine I think, have just put my blades I have in stock in them waiting on an order to arrive later. Still need to sort where and how to put the type and bladesize on them, but that will come. Took some pictures.

Marcel I have ordered some FD blades different sizes to try out, and I have one filled up with that which I had. There are 8 slots(or whatever in each). So I reckoned rather safe than sorry, now I have one extra just in case my blade supply will overflow. Like yours FD Mike.

I made my own out of 1" PVC pipe and wood. Bored 1" holes in the wood. Cut the tops of the PVC pipe on a 45 deg angle to access the blades easier.  8)

Good idea, thanks for sharing.   I like the Bic pens idea.  Bought a dozen Bics for a little over $1 take out the insides and the casings will hold a dozen+ blades.  Your idea would make a good rack for them, sprials in one, flat blades in another, etc and just mark sizes on the tubes in different colors to keep them straight.

That's a nifty idea about the bic pens, might go and get some next week and see how they work. Sounds like a good way to stop them from maybe falling out or so.

This is my blade holder. I get my blades from Mike and only use a few types so far. Since I suffer greatly from A.G.E. I put the type of blade on the holder and as a reminder, what they are used for. I also put the type of blade I am using on the piece I am currently working on. That way should it break or I have another attack of CRS, I can grab the correct blade.

Hey David....Seriously there are many different objects to store your blades in, but I have really came to the conclusion that the clear and already marked baggies that Mike sends them in is just right if you have a lil box to put them all in.  Works for me.  Back to work....  :+}

I bought some plastic tubes from "Sloans Wood Shop" that have plug style caps. I take the label from the plastic sack and roll it so that you can see the size (and manfacturer and part number) from the out side and lay them in a drawer of my small tool box. Being capped, it keeps the sawdust out and yet easy to grab a blade.
When I want to use a certain size blade, I lay the whole tube on the saw table within easy reach.
