BIG THANKS to Sheila.

My yellow 788 quit today,  In a panic I called Sheila.  She really helped I am back up and running.  If your 788 quits and thumping it doesn't help check the wires to the switch.
Evidently with my vigorous cleaning today, I bumped or blew something loose.

well I was blowing the dust out of my shop and blew the dust off the saw and made it nice and clean but in the process I must have got a little too forceful.  I have a big air compressor.
anyway the wires that connect to the variable speed or the switch got loosened up.  Sheila sent me the specs to show where everything is. I tried jiggling and poking around, but, Since I am mostly one handed I called an electrian friend and I told him what Sheila said to do.  He tested everything with his meters and everything was fine.  He unplugged and plugged the wires and it started working.  Long story short (too late) take the switch cover off, unplug and replug the wires.

Hey Judy, I have heard from several experts that using compressed air near the switch of the DW788 can cause sawdust to impact on the contacts inside the switch. So it is not recommended to use compressed air on the switch. I use a small brush to clean my saw.

Looks like I will be trying this in the near future.  My switch quit on me today.  Unless it was maybe the fuse.  I don't know how to tell except to check the switch connections first.  But it was working fine until I turned it off to remove the piece.  When I turned it on again, nothing happened.  I have been telling myself to get out and buy a foot switch but just never got around to it.

Wish me luck.  I guess that'll teach me to be so lazy.
