Dewalt 788

Hi, I recently found a spring on the floor under my saw. I don't recognize it, and it's not obvious where it belongs. Anybody know? I have not tried using the saw since finding the spring since it could be something important. It is 3/8" diameter by 3-1/4: long, plus a 3/8" closed loop on both ends. ***I tried to post a photo but it would not upload... Thanks for any info.

I don't have a DeWalt but I can suggest looking in your manual.  There should be an exploded view - probably at the back - that shows all the parts.  If it doesn't show a spring then you get to figure out where else it came from.

Oh - and that was your 4th post so I think you can post pictures now.

I looked through the parts diagram and parts list for the 788 and did not find any spring.  Looked twice.

Thanks for the info. I bought this saw from another woodworker. The manual was not included so I downloaded one. There was no parts list or exploded view, hence this post. I would like to have one, though...

Does your saw perhaps have a lifter accessory that holds the arm up when changing blades or setting up for an internal cut?  Mine uses a spring similar to what you describe to hold the arm up.  This is external to the "innards" of the saw, spring at back above the motor.
