Spiral Blades on MDF
« on: September 20, 2014, 08:11:42 am »
I need to cut some large items too big to turn on my EX21, so I was thinking about using spiral blades. I will be cutting 1/2" MDF, which I have never used before and also have never used spiral blades. Will spiral blades cut MDF without leaving blade marks or causing it to flake? There are no small fret cuts, so I will be able to sand most of the cuts? Also, what size would be best?

Yes Ray, I plan on wearing my respirator. If the dust is too bad, I will stop and just tell my customer no. Anyway, Mike sent some blades to try and I will test them soon.

Yes I have seen MDF being cut and its a fine powdery mess, just awful mess. I have read a good article on using MDF in projects and it said the outer sides of MDF is hard while the center core can be soft and make a mess when its cut.

I am sorry about not following up on this subject, but, have had a bout with colon cancer and am now home from hospital recovering. All went well and the surgon feels he got all the bad cancer removed and the path report looked good. I give all this good report to the love of God and the power of prayer. So, I have not been at my saw for a few weeks, but, will get back shortly and test the blades on the mdf.
