Bottle Opener Modified
« on: July 09, 2014, 03:10:42 pm »
This is a variation on Steve's Bottle Opener. I liked Steve's idea but thought this would be easier to build. It's 2x3 inches, 3/4" thick, using a nickel rather than a penny. The penny bent on the 1st one I made. The nickel is epoxied into the opening. We'll have to see if that holds up. If not, I'll add a screw.

Pattern is attached.

Nice one Ray, I guess it depends on how many bottles you open as to how long it lasts :) :) :) :)

Nicely done Ray.  I bet you will have to add a screw though.  Thanks for sharing this with us.

great Job Ray,
I love improvement and it shows that sometimes even (steve) good things can be made a little better ;)
(sorry had to make the Steve good joke... haha, no offense Steve, love your work!!)
hope the epox will be strong enough to last.
If not an other idea is to cut 1/4" slice of the bottom.
drill a penny deep penny size hole in it but  make the hole for the penny a little smaller.
then glue the penny inside and glue the slice back to the other wood.
don't know it that will be strong enough, but worth the try to prevent not drill a screw true the penny.

I did a little photoshop and it would look a bit like this.

Turns out I needed the screw. The epoxy broke on the 1st bottle. This is a 1/2" long #10 round head - a heavy screw. The wood is 3/4" Birch. It is danged strong now. It takes a little force to pop some caps since it has such a short arm to it, but it works.
