Ideas on pricing
« on: January 09, 2014, 06:23:23 pm »
I certainly didn't go into this to make money but an opportunity has presented itself, and if nothing else I'd like to recoup any costs. My daughter's a yoga enthusiast and I sent this to her at the end of November. I now have orders for six. Suggestions on what to charge would be appreciated. Material cost was negligible as I did it on a whim and had everything at hand. Can't really say how long it took as I usually have several projects on the go at once. I'm guessing 6 to 8 hours to cut everything including routering the base and the "hangar". I could certainly cut the time down by stack cutting as much as possible. Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Barry. p.s. there appear to be imperfections but they're on the photo not the piece.

I would say about 40usd thats a nice piece might do up a parts/cost list if the materials see what that cost then divide by how many you have to make thats what each one will cost to make then mark up a little to make some profit or if you want to break even, like I do, I price my stuff for now to cover the materials as I love doing this for fum Though a coworker wants me to cut out 15 crosses by christmas he sends crosses out to his family member at christmas he wanted to know how much to charge him I told him depends on how intricate and long it takes to cut them out.

I see 4 separate pieces. The fretwork I would price at $20.00. The disk and the base and the holder all take time and energy and material. If it is cut and stained from readily available wood I am thinking minimum 60 to 80. If cut from exotic hardwoods and not stained I would consider it a custom order and sell for minimum 120. I did a two layer custom fretwork piece for a customer last year and she was very happy with paying 60. It was not near as complex as this piece. My thoughts only.
