Using a jewelers drill on fretwork

I watched a video of 'kenbo' about fretwork. He said a jeweler's drill is a must tool for fretwork but he did not show why and how.

Anyone knows what he meant? Would be for drilling small/tiny holes? Does not look like it has any power - therefore would have to drill manually?

Why not use Dremel tool with tiny bit?

I use two methods.  I have a mini chuck I use in my drill press.  Sometimes that does not get you to the center of your project.  The other method is a small bit inserted in a dremel.  The dremel is mounted in the plunge router base made for the dremel.  This will get you anywhere you need to get.  I do not recommend trying to "free hand" the holes.  They really need to be straight up and down.

I use a jewelers drill exclusively.

My normal bits are #73 and I use 3/0 blades.

They are so small that the weight of the dremel will break them.

I also have to have them drilled into the right spot.  I put the tiny pieces back in when I am done so the drill holes will be in the 1/16" border around it otherwise the finished piece will have a hole in to which of course would look dumb.

Once you go to this you wont go back.
