need help with a pattern

i am trying to get a pattern of a chevy Monte Carlo emblem but i needs to be a 1970-1972 emblem only difference between emblems is the little wreaths on the side are not there on the one i need. i am new to photo shop and i cant seem to get it right.  if some one could help me out ti would be much appreciated.

Thank you what do you use to create your designs
I copy the photo into GIMP, convert to gray scale, use filters to get down to essential shapes (cartoon and photocopy usually do it, but sometimes the edge filters as well) then to Inkscape to make a trace (smooths the curves down) and set the size (traces don't produce jaggies), then back to GIMP to remove floaters. Maybe another pass through Inkscape to clean up and change to Fill and Stroke colors (Gray&Red) for cutting.

This process produces a version that looks like a drawing of the original. It takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on the original photo. This one is all geometry so it was closer to 30 minutes.
